In this digital imaging class techniques of digital image capture including scanning and digital cameras will be covered. Students learn the basics of digital cameras and the peripherals required to use them. Digital photography exercises emphasize traditional 35 mm techniques such as aperture and shutter speed priority, white balance, bracketing, and flash techniques. Digital image editing and manipulation techniques such as: image correction, resolution, photo retouching, restoration, photo collage, printing considerations and methods, desktop and web based applications for photo manipulation and online sharing are explored.

Students will learn the basics of Adobe® Photoshop® Elements. Photoshop Elements graphic software offers unique features designed specifically for photographers, hobbyists, and business users who want an easy-to-use, yet powerful digital imaging solution. State-of-the-art image editing tools free you to explore your creativity while mastering the elements of digital imaging. Flexible image-capture options let you work with photos taken with digital or traditional cameras, and versatile delivery features enable you to prepare images for print, e-mail, or posting on the Web.

Students are encouraged to bring their own digital cameras with smart media, or compact Flash disk cards and readers.

Course Description: Inspired by the majestic Ghost Ranch and Northern New Mexico landscape, join us for a weeklong intensive digital photography and web photo-sharing workshop. Students will learn the basics of digital cameras and the peripherals required to use them. The gap between digital and traditional 35 mm photography is bridged through digital photography exercises that emphasize traditional 35 mm techniques such as aperture and shutter speed priority, white balance, bracketing, flash techniques and use of filters.

Course Description: Inspired by the majestic Ghost Ranch and Northern New Mexico landscape, join us for a week-long intensive digital photography and web photo sharing workshop. Extending your digital photo skills with web based photography applications and photo sharing online sites. Digital photography exercises will emphasize snapshot experimentation, use of web based applications for photo-graphic editing and enhancement as well as distribution methods for sharing photo memories.

Students focus on their digital photography skills while learning to create online photo albums and e-photo sharing cards. Students will learn the basics of digital cameras and the peripherals required to move photos from their camera to their computer to the online world of e-photo sharing.

Students are encouraged to bring their own digital cameras with smart media and compact flash disc cards and readers. Oh yea, bring your camera manual too!

Prerequisites: Basic web browser use, email use, computer navigation and mouse skills are required for admission.

Digital Photography II & Digital Imaging for Photographers

Course Description: Designed for digital photographers who work or plan to work with digital photo-graphic tools. This workshop gives participants the confidence to create their own digital expressions. The week includes tutorials in Adobe Photoshop Elements the new slimmed down Photoshop with a digital photography focus.

Photoshop Elements is used to create and edit digital images for print and web. Participants learn from hands-on demonstrations, practical lab exercises and in-the-field shooting in the Northern New Mexico area. Adobe Photoshop Elements offers unique features designed specifically for amateur photographers, hobbyists, educators and business users who want an easy-to-use, yet powerful digital imaging solution. State-of-the-art image editing tools free you to explore your creativity while mastering the elements of digital imaging.

Students are encouraged to bring their own digital cameras with smart media and compact flash disc cards and readers. Oh yea, bring your camera manual too!

Each participant will complete a web enabled photo gallery for viewing from any location. The workshop will culminate with a Ghost Ranch art gathering to share your work with other Ghost Ranch classes and visitors.


Prerequisites: Basic web browser use, email use, computer navigation and mouse skills are required for admission. Limited prior use of a traditional and digital camera required.

What to Bring to Our Workshops








What to Bring to Our Workshops

  • Digital Camera, from point-and-shoot to pro level, and lenses of varied lengths. Your camera manual too!

  • Storage Media - Smart media or Compact Media Readers (also available at the Ghost Ranch Trading Post).

  • Extra batteries and your battery charger.

  • Laptop computer (totally optional) with USB accessories.

  • The imaging software you use on your computer (totally optional).

  • Other photography equipment and accessories, such as camera bag, flash, tripod, extra batteries and smart or compact media cards (optional).

  • Dress casual and for New Mexico weather. New Mexico weather is cold in winter, warm in spring, and hot in summer and it could rain during any season so bring a rain coat. Bring comfortable shoes for hiking and walking, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and layers of clothing for New Mexico's variable weather conditions.

& Ghost Ranch Lanscapes

In addtion to photographing the beautiful landscapes, hikes, farm and ranch animals we will also take Northern New Mexico road trips for more photo opportunities. The variety of typical Northern New Mexico road trips can be seen at Digital Day Adventures on the Digial Abiquiu website.
